and pride. Three years later, her teacher encouraged her to keep writing after a short story about two children during World War II brought her teacher to tears. Despite the early encouragement, Elizabeth also fell in love with science and math. During her third year of university as a chemistry student, Elizabeth took an English class that changed her life forever. She began writing again, this time, taking on a full-length novel. At the end of the semester, they heard about a short story competition hosted by her university. Elizabeth was already half way through her novel, and it was clearly too long to submit, so she wrote a prologue based on the events preceding the novel. Her submission won the competition, showing that science students can indeed be literate as well. This short story was entitled Cerebral Supernova. Elizabeth dedicated this short story to her nana, who, like the main character, suffered from dementia at the time. After completing her undergraduate degree in chemistry, Elizabeth continued her education, earning herself a Master's degree in chemistry as well in 2022. They began their PhD immediately after, and continues to do research in mathematical biology studying the effects of splicing in human gene expression. Shortly after beginning this program, she came across a video on instagram of two female pirates.... Inspiration struck as she was immediately reminded of Anne Bonny and Mary Read: two of their favourite female pirates of all time. These women, and this video, inspired Elizabeth to write the Dark Depths Duology: their debut duology.​The first book in the duology, A Kiss of the Siren's Song, is available now.
